Mini-Review | Restaurant Braseiro

The day I cheated on Jano.

It was a Tuesday, and I remember it like it was yesterday.

I’ve never shied away from my love for Jano, a portuguese restaurant on St-Laurent, just below Duluth. Every time I had a craving for charcoal-grilled chicken and calamari, Jano would be my first choice. The waiters know exactly what we order — that’s how often my boyfriend and I go there!?

That day, however, we veered away from our familiar path. With butterflies in our stomach, we decided to try a new, unfamiliar joint.

Let’s just say this wasn’t guilt-free cheating. But it felt so good and tasted so right!

As an appetizer, the grilled calamari:

For $9, the calamari, which was sliced, came accompanied with a fresh tomato and onion salsa, and a salad with mixed veggies and chick peas. Tasty!

One of the main dishes, the grilled chicken:

This plate is similar to that at Jano’s, except the house salad comes with the plate. The chicken was tasty, and the fries were moist. A familiar dish in an unfamiliar place.

The other main dish, grilled dorade, or Sea Bream, fish:

Originally, I had ordered the salmon, but I quickly changed my mind when I saw that for $18, I could get some fresh dorade fish. The change of heart was a good one.

The fish was tasty and cooked to perfection, but beware, the dorade is a vey bony fish!

The same fresh salsa that came with the calamari also accompanied the fish. More so, all fish dishes come with grilled veggies, a boiled potato (!) and the house salad — makes for both a flavourful and colourful plate!

All-in-all, despite the guilt, I would highly recommend Braseiro, as I would Jano, for its affordable prices and appetizing offerings.

Service: The place was pretty busy, and there were only two waiters. Unfortunately, we got the least attentive of the two.

Ambiance: It got really loud, with people talking over the music, which was too loud itself. There is a large television, so one might assume that they are sports matches.

Snapshots | Thali Cuisine Indienne

The Concordia ‘hood is known to be home to many little culinary gems — think about the ever-so-popular Kazu for instance. However, when craving Indian cuisine, most don’t head directly to that particular neighborhood, favoring Park-Extension for its infinite number of Indian restaurant instead.

This little spot was recommended to me by @likealocalguide (follow him!). So today, when my (new!) fridge broke and all my food went bad, I decided to try it out, and I’m happy I did.

Cheap prices, flavorful food!

All the fabulous items pictured below cost me a grand total of $11.

First, the non-vegetarian thali: $9.

Second, the onion bhaji appetizer: four pieces for $2.

Third, fresh na’an (comes with thali).
